UNF: Who Is Mateo Borda Boyanovich & Is He Arrested?

According to police and court documents, a University of North Florida student who was previously charged with making threats to shoot up the school is now a suspect in three different sexual violence cases.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, Mateo Borda Boyanovitch, 21, was arrested Friday on counts of sexual violence related to two occurrences in September 2021 and one in August 2020.

According to JSO records, Boyanovitch is detained at the Baker County Jail, probably because he is an international student.

Likewise, Neighbors had talked about a police investigation into an accusation of sexual assault that reportedly transpired inside this home the day after Borda was dragged out of the East Arlington residence in handcuffs and placed into custody on the initial charge in early February.

Details On The Charges Explored

One of the sexual battery accusations against Borda, according to his counsel, arises from a woman who claimed police she was raped by Borda inside a home he shares with several males in East Arlington’s Greenfield Lakes community.

According to Borda’s counsel, the other two instances were two women who told police that Borda sexually attacked them inside the same residence on the same night in September but during a fraternity party.

Borda, who is from Lima, Peru, was detained in February on a charge of threatening to carry out a mass massacre in writing, to which he has pleaded not guilty.

He was reported to being held in the Baker County Jail on that charge due to an immigration hold, but he has now been transferred to the Duval County jail and ordered held on a $600,000 bail.

According to an attorney unaffiliated with the case, the immigration hold prevents him from bonding out of jail, leaving the country, and not returning to face the accusations in court.

If convicted of all three charges of sexual battery, the total sentence may be up to 45 years in jail. A conviction on the threat charge may result in a prison sentence of up to 15 years.
