Michael Hernandez was a convicted murderer who was serving a life sentence for the fatal stabbing of Jaime Gough at Southwood Middle School. 

He killed his school friend Jaime when he was 14 years old; Hernandez lured Jamie into an accessible stall before school, stabbed him with a knife more than 40 times, and ripped his throat.

Later it was revealed that he had become fascinated with serial killers by studying them online and made a list of people he wanted to slay; the index included Jamie. 

He committed the crime in 2004 but was pledged guilty in 2008 after a jury rejected his insanity plea. After his death, the Goughs told Hernandez death was unexpected, but that didn’t bring them peace.
