Khabib Nurmagomedov is a Russian professional mixed martial artist competing in the Lightweight division. He is a two-time Combat Sambo World Champion and is currently reigning undisputed UFC Lightweight Champion. He holds the record of longest unbeaten record of 27 wins in mixed martial arts (MMA) and remains undefeated in professional MMA.

In September 2008, he made his first professional MMA debut. Within a months period, he had four wins three of them he won the same night. He won the inaugural Atrium Cup tournament championship at Moscow in October 2008 a month after his debut. In 2009, he won M-1 Global debut.

In the following three years he won 12 matches. He made an impressive record of 16 wins and not even a single loss and his tough fights caught the attention of Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). In 2011, he signed a six-fight agreement with the UFC. In early 2012, he had his debut match was against Kamal Shalorus. He won the match via submission in the third round.

His next bout was against Gleison Tibau which he won via unanimous decision. On Nov 12, 2016, he won the match against Michael Johnson at the UFC 205. He later defeated Al Iaquinta by unanimous decision.

On December 30, 2017, he faced Edson Barboza at UFC 219. He dominated in all the three rounds of the fight and he won via unanimous decision and earned his first Performance of the Night bonus. On April 7, 2018, he faced Al Iaquinta he won the fight via unanimous decision and became the UFC Lightweight Champion.

On October 6, 2018, at UFC 229 he faced McGregor in a title defense match where he defended his UFC lightweight title vigorously and won the match in the fourth round via submission.

  • In 2008, he won the Pankration Atrium Cup tournament.
  • In 2009, he won a gold medal at the World Combat Sambo Championships. The same year he won the selections at the M-1 Challenge and Russian Combat Sambo Championships.
  • In 2010, he won two awards for Sambo; Gold medal in the World Combat Sambo Championships (82 kg) and a silver medal in World Cup in Combat Sambo (82 kg).
  • In 2012, he earned two titles in grappling.  He became the Men’s No-Gi Expert Welterweight Champion as well as the ADCC Rules No-Gi Expert Welterweight Champion.
  • He won the 2013 Staredown of the Year by Fightbooth.com and was later named the 2013 Breakthrough Fighter of the Year by Sherdog.com.
  • In 2016, he was given the title ‘Comeback Fighter of the Year by Sherdog.com. The same year he won the title International Fighter of the Year at the World MMA Awards.
  • He also has the record of most takedowns in a single Ultimate Fighting Championship. His record is 21 takedowns in 27 attempts.
